Nikki Bella may be back on the market, but she’s not looking for anyone new. After she and John Cena called off their engagement, many fans were left wondering just when she would return to the dating scene, and the WWE star revealed to Us Weekly that she’s happy to stay home for now.
“It’s kind of boring in the dating life, but other than that, it’s been a lot of fun,” the 34-year-old said about her life. “I’ve just been busy working and I just love everything that [my sister Brie Bella] and I are up to. It’s just been a lot of fun.”
She added that she prefers to stay home, rather than try to go out on the town.
“Gosh, I’m pretty lame. Usually, the person that I date at night is Netflix and my black licorice,” she joked. “They’re very satisfying.”
The star added that she and John aren’t on the outs — in fact, she said, “We just have such a great relationship.” Could a reconciliation be in their future?
Nikki and John were together for over half a decade when they decided to part ways. Though they initially called off the wedding in April, they decided to split for good in July of this year.
“After I called off the engagement, we tried to work on our relationship to get back to where it was, and in order to move forward with our wedding. After much time and soul-searching alone and together, we have decided to officially part ways,” Nikki explained E! News.
“I had a beautiful and loving six-year relationship with a wonderful man. I have the utmost respect for John, but I know this is what’s best for me,” she added.
Since then, Nikki has been plenty busy with Total Divas and Total Bellas, both of which she is featured on. In fact, Total Divas recently revealed a sneak peek of Season 8, which premieres on Sept. 19. Based on this, it looks like it’ll be a big one!
The show will feature the ladies participating in WrestleMania 34. The 2018 “Superbowl” of wrestling included more female events than any of the years past, showing just how far the sport has come.
After a 2015 Raw match in Nashville between the Bella twins and other Divas lasted only 29 seconds, outraged fans began demanding a “WWE Women’s Revolution.” They wanted more screen time and attention for their favorite female wrestlers. The hashtag “#GiveDivasAChance” quickly drew attention from the network.
“Our fans spoke out. It was a global trend that was so loud and so powerful,” Stephanie McMahon told ESPN at the time. “It was a cry for our female performers to be given longer match time and to be given more meaningful storylines and to have deeper character development.”
In the newest preview, Trinity Fatu triumphantly states, “It’s the best time to be a woman.”
In 2016, WWE dropped the term “divas” and began calling its female performers “superstars,” as they do for males. They also replaced the title belt, which previously featured a butterfly in several shades of pink.
Total Divas did not re-brand after that announcement and the hit reality show continues to carry the same name. The new season will feature the girls’ triumphant achievements on WWE, but it is also sure to show the usual drama.
The preview offered a glimpse of Paige going off on Lana.
“You insensitive piece of f**king…” Paige yelled at her co-star.
Lana cut her off and quickly fired back, “I’m not gonna be a f**king doormat,” before Nattie Neidhart came in to play peacemaker between the pair.
“We all love each other,” she insisted, calling the girls “sisters.”
The teaser trailer also gave a glimpse of the storyline that everyone is anxiously waiting for: Nikki’s relationship status. In one scene, the wrestling superstar was seen boldly fooling around with a cute new dude.
“Am I making you embarrassed ’cause you’re with an older woman?” she asked before caressing his face.
“We have so much chemistry,” Nikki proclaimed in a voiceover as the clip ended. “It’s amazing.”
Well, she’s obviously not shy about sharing just how her dating adventures are going.
As far as how John has been handling the breakup… well, it’s been rough. Cena appeared on the Today show in May to spill his guts over his recent breakup. While speaking about his broken engagement and scrapped wedding, the 41-year-old admitted he still had feelings for Nikki.
“I still love Nicole, I still would love to marry Nicole, I still would love to have a family with Nicole,” he said, explaining he had his “heart broken out of nowhere” when the two called it quits in April. “There was an unfortunate set of circumstances where our relationship ended.”
“I don’t want anybody else,” he continued. “I love Nicole and I’m really trying to support her in her trying to find whatever it is she wants that made this fall apart in the first place.”
